Ukrainian Village Chicago Real Estate Conditions
Ukrainian Village is a distinct and highly ethnic
neighborhood located on Chicago’s near west side. The neighborhood is bordered
by Division Street to the north, Grand Avenue to the south, Ashland Avenue to
the east, and Western Avenue to the west.
Ukrainians, Germans, and Polish established Ukrainian
Village in the late 19th century. The influence of these cultures is
highly prevalent in the community through its many orthodox cathedrals, delis,
and specialty food shops, and community organizations. With neighboring
communities such as East Village and Wicker Park, this community’s landscape is
constantly changing. Newer and trendier bars, restaurants, and shops are
beginning to line the streets of this quieter, family oriented community.
The European influence is also seen in the eclectic
architecture in Ukrainian Village. Smaller bungalows as well as two and three
flats make up much of the landscape; although, new construction condos continue
to make their way into this community.
