South Shore Chicago Real Estate Conditions

South Shore is a south side community located with Marquette to the north, 79th to the south, Lake Michigan east, and Stoney Island west.

Although Swedish and Irish traders first settled South Shore, the community now boasts one of the largest Hispanic and Afro-American populations in Chicago, who have restored some of the city’s most beautiful homes. The neighborhood is home to the South Shore Cultural Center, which was formerly a renowned country club and lakeshore retreat house frequented by famous movers and shakers like Amelia Earhardt and Jean Harlow. Today the park has been restored and is open to the public.

Once a highly industrial quarter, the South Shore is now home to some of the city’s most exciting and moderately priced new construction and development. Condos and loft conversions are some of the more prevalent housing options in this community.
