Near South is a community just south of Chicago’s Loop located with Pershing Road at the north, Marquette south, Cottage Grove east, and State Street west.

Near South is home to one of Chicago’s largest housing and development booms in the last 20 years. Because of this, it is also one of the most economically diverse areas in the city. Some of Chicago’s wealthiest residents live in close proximity to some of the city’s most improvised. Near South is home to the Illinois Institute of Technology and the Prairie Avenue Historic District, which has Chicago’s oldest building, The Widow Clarke House.
