Lakeview Chicago Real Estate Conditions
Lakeview is a community running along Lake Michigan with its
borders from Addison to the north, Diversey to the south, Lake Michigan to the
east, and the Chicago River to the west. The legend is that the community was
named for the “Lakeview Hotel,” built in 1853, just four miles north of
downtown.
The neighborhood is known for being one of the city’s most
scenic and walkable areas, bordering both lake Michigan and the Chicago river
giving it many opportunities for
boating, jogging, volleyball, golfing, skating, biking, fishing and more.
Culturally the community has a great deal of shopping, restaurants, small
theaters, intimate music venues, and a large gay and lesbian community, which
mainly resides on the Halsted strip known as “Boystown.”
Lakeview is known for one-and-two-bedroom condos on
the eastern border, along with Victorian gray stones, large single-family homes
and grandiose mansions that date back to the 1800s. The western border contains
rehabbed vintage apartments/condos, multi units, storefront conversions, lofts,
and lovely single-family homes.
