Kenwood Chicago Real Estate Conditions
Kenwood is a community located south of Chicago’s Loop,
with its borders from 47th Street north, 51st Street
south, Lake Michigan east, and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
west.
Kenwood was once referred to as the “Lake Forest of the
South,” due to its very green landscape and residential feel. Kenwood has some
of the largest homes in Chicago, including the residence of Muslim activist,
Louis Farrakhan. Kenwood was an elite community. Some of its most famous former
residents include merchant Martin Ryerson, meatpacker
Gustavus Swift, and Sears Roebuck executive Julius Rosenwald.
The community contains some of Chicago’s
best collections of architectural styles, ranging from Italinate
and Colonial
Revival to Queen
Anne and Prairie
School.
