Canaryville is a smaller industrial south side Chicago community located next to the old Stockyards with its boundaries at 39^th Street north, 49^th Street south, Halsted east, and Canal west.

Canaryville is an Irish and Mexican American dominated community with a blue collar and tradition that reaches back to the Meat Packing industry in the 1860’s. There are many theories about how Canaryville got its name, but the true origin is a mystery. Construction on the Dan Ryan Expressway affected Canaryville’s population, but now many vacant lots have opened up and developers have become more interested in the area.

New construction options are beginning to dominate the landscape, with a focus on condominiums.
