Back of the Yards is an industrial and residential south side Chicago community located with Pershing Road north, 60^th south, Union Avenue east, Western Avenue west.

Back of the Yards is situated behind the Union Stockyards, which are no longer in operation. Because of the neighborhoods industrial roots the community was originally settled by eastern European immigrants, but is now home to many Mexican-American residents. Recent years have shown great growth and revitalization, partially due to the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Association, one of America’s longest standing and most successful neighborhood associations. Education is a main focus within the community, with one of Chicago’s highest concentrations of schools per capita.

Although Back of the Yards remains an industrial quarter, many single-family homes and two and three flats line the streets of this growing community
